  • Action Alert: Early Voting Comments Needed

We have been communicating with our members about a push to expand early voting and how to get involved in that effort. Last week we notified you regarding issues that places Orange County’s early voting plan in limbo and now we need your help once more.

The State Board of Elections will consider four plans from Orange County (one majority bi-partisan plan, two Republican plans, and one Democratic plan). The Orange County Democratic Party is supporting the Democratic Plan submitted by Jamie Cox, Democratic Member of the County Board of Elections. We believe that the Democratic Plan submitted by Jamie Cox is the most consistent with the values of a majority of voters in Orange County and the recent ruling by the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals, including voters who have voiced their opinions directly to the County Board of Elections or through their elected officials.

The State Board of Elections has opened a comment portal for folks to weigh in on plans that are coming before them at a recent meeting.

You may comment on Orange County’s plan using the following link:

The points we would like our members to consider in their comments include:

    · 40% increase in total hours compared to the 2012 schedule to accommodate increase in turnout

    · Extended Evening Hours (most sites open until 7:30pm on weekdays and ALL sites open until 7:30 the last 3 weekdays)

    · All sites open on ALL weekend days of the Early Voting Period

    · Extended Saturday Hours (7:30am - 5pm all three Saturdays at all sites)

    · Sunday Hours (1pm - 5pm both Sundays at all sites)

    · The additional Site at University Place that will reach traditionally under-served communities, and accommodate increased turnout without overly burdening our existing staff.

Please know that comments submitted through this form constitute a public record, cannot be made anonymously, and must be submitted by Monday, September 5th at 5pm.

A week from today Hillary Clinton will formally accept the nomination of our party to become the 45th President of the United States. This is a historic achievement because for the first time in history a woman will lead the ticket of a major political party.

The OCDP will be hosting a watch party next week to celebrate this historic achievement and kick off our general election push. It should be fun to watch this historic nomination with friends, fellow Democrats and some of our local candidates and office holders.

    Here are the details:
